Ragama Teaching Hospital
Primary Placement (Wattala)
A prestigious 1,400-bed tertiary facility. High patient volumes, complex specialties, intense A&E, and the primary teaching hospital for a leading medical school.
Karapitiya Teaching Hospital
Secondary Placement (Galle)
Southern Sri Lanka's premier 1,200+ bed institution. Focuses on regional healthcare, coastal demographics, and specialised tropical emergency care.
Ayurvedic Government Clinic
Weekly Rotation
Step into a 3,000-year-old medical paradigm. A government-supported traditional medicine clinic exploring pulse diagnosis and herbal therapies.
Your Role as a Volunteer
Shadow consultants during morning rounds. Observe clinical reasoning, advanced physical diagnostics without heavy reliance on imaging, and the pervasive teaching culture of Sri Lankan hospitals.
Important Note: Your level of hands-on involvement depends entirely on your training level, experience, and supervisor assessment. Pre-clinical students primarily observe, while advanced students may participate more actively.
A Typical Week
Hospital placements run Mon-Fri. Shifts typically start at 7:00 AM and finish around 1:00 PM.
